WHICH Principals, Dr. M.?

Heath Morrison, entering CMS in a few days, has boasted to the Charlotte media about how he shook things up over at WCSD and "replaced" fifteen out of a hundred principals when he first came on board.

"Replace" doesn't mean squat. The "replaced" principals could be merely reassigned or actually promoted to the central office. I know of only ONE who was demoted and NONE who were fired outright though many of them should have been.

He simply filled open positions. That is the answer.

He did rule the district under a cloud of fear and intimidation:

Washoe County employees describe Morrison as an inspirational figure who demands much of his employees and even more of himself. Some question whether he pushed too hard too fast, leaving weariness – and wariness – as he moves on.

“Our teachers are tired. They’re working harder than they’ve ever worked before,” said Dana Galvin, president of the Washoe Education Association. “I think in the long run we’ll see results, but the short run is they’re tired.”

David Fullenwider, president of Washoe Schools Principals Association, praised Morrison’s management skills and vision, but said some good principals lived in fear of being fired. “If you mess up, man, it’s pretty harsh,” he said.

Morrison’s energy and vision have drawn national attention. He has never worked more than five years in any job and was national Superintendent of the Year after just two years in Reno. Before his third year ended, he took the Charlotte job.

Morrison says he strives for balance: Give employees guidance and support if they’re falling short, but don’t keep them around if it means kids suffer. Set standards high, but don’t be unreasonable.

Underneath all of the flim-flam, he was and is a tyrant. This is what Andrew Barbano was hinting at in his piece linked below. Nobody dared be critical of Morrison for fear CMS would withdraw the job offer. WCSD's gain is CMS's loss.

However, the next sup is likely to be even worse than Morrison.
