Will I'll Have Another Get Another Win

and become the first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed did the deed 34 years ago?

With Bodemeister out of contention, it does look better for the Derby-Preakness winner, but there are a couple of "fresh horses" who could throw a monkey wrench in the proceedings.

It is certainly getting more and more difficult for a horse to win it. The sport needs a winner since tracks have been losing money and even closing in the past couple of decades.

And of course you get the PETA nutters who think horse racing should be outlawed because it is "hard" on the horses. Naturally it is traumatizing to watch a horse get injured or even be euthanized as a result of track injuries. They are impossible to prevent entirely, and horses' bodies cannot easily survive leg injuries because of their physiological makeup. It's hard for me to watch a horse race since Go For Wand's death in 1990. But I have been doing it despite the increasing fragility of racehorses because of idiot breeders who breed for speed rather than for soundness. However, you have to realize with these animal "rights" whackos that they are opposed to ALL animal domestication, but they hide this truth under a lot of seemingly valid criticism. They would ban dogs and cats if they could, but instead they push mandatory spay/neutering as a way to allow domesticated pets to die out "naturally."

These bastards can kiss my omnivorous, pet-owning ass.

Anyway, back to the races. I hope I'll Have Another does win the race.

So does "speed fiend" Andrew Beyer.

For fun, here is a ranking of the 11 Triple Crown winners.

No surprise, really, with Secretariat being ranked first. How could any list be otherwise? My quibble would be ranking Count Fleet so low. He should rank either third or fourth on the list, probably third behind Citation and Secretariat. I would also rank Affirmed above Seattle Slew. Affirmed not just had to beat Alydar, he also went up against Seattle Slew and Spectacular Bid.

Speaking of the Bid, I have mentioned at how pissed off I was over jockey Ron Franklin having pissed away the horse's chances to win the 1979 Belmont Stakes. Coastal, a son of 1969 Derby-Preakness winner Majestic Prince, avenged his sire's loss and won with Golden Act second.
