$238,000 a Year? Not Bad for Somebody Unqualified for the Job

Apparently this is considered "competitive" enough for new WCSD sup Pedro Martinez as he signed the dotted line for a four-year contract. He, like Heath Morrison, promised to stick around northern Nevada for the long haul. We ALL know how it worked for Morrison.

Pedro, though, doesn't seen to have it in him to be narcissistic enough to buy himself a national sup of the year award and leave afterwards, and I am not sure anybody else will have him given his utter lack of qualifications. WCSD's teachers may be stuck with him for a long time, and, since he is Eli Broad, the reign of terror started by Morrison will continue under Martinez.

WCSD, a crappy school district run by crappy or crooked administrators with a lousy board of trustees with many good people caught in the ed deform crossfire, will go further down the toilet.

THAT'S a promise.

From the article, which is behind a paywall:

Washoe County schools Trustee Dan Carne said that despite looming budget cuts, the board was willing to pay more to secure a high-quality superintendent.

“We needed the right person for this job, and we think Pedro’s that person,” he said. “And an extra five, 10, $15,000 one way or another is not a big thing in the scheme of things. It doesn’t make sense to save $20,000 and not hire the best candidate.”

When asked about his base pay, Martinez said he was more focused on getting to work. That helped get relations with the board off on the right foot.

“I’m excited about having the support of the board, and I’m excited to join the community,” he said.

Martinez is eligible to receive performance-based bonuses up to $23,800 every year of his contract, and he could receive a similar bonus in 2015 and a $35,700 bonus in 2016 if he stays with the district.

His pay is higher than most sups in similar size districts, yet he is completely unqualified by Nevada statute to be a superintendent.
