Etc.

I am sure we will get some scorching hot days here in southern Oregon although the weather has been very pleasant so far this summer when it hasn't been raining. Unfortunately, the eastern United States has been hit with a terrible heat wave, with temperatures at the Palm Springs or Las Vegas level. It's worse there, of course, because of the high humidity, one of the reasons I wouldn't live back there despite there being many good things about the region.

The National Climatic Data Center reported that nearly 1,600 record high temperatures had been broken in the last week of June. Friday was the hottest day on record for many towns, and it is just the beginning of the summer season. Nashville, Tennessee and Columbia, South Carolina reached 109 degrees; Washington, DC registered 104, breaking the previous record by two degrees. Atlanta, Georgia hit an all-time record of 106 degrees on Sunday.

Combined with high humidity, meteorologists warn that the heat index could reach 118 in some areas of the South.

Coming to your area soon is your friendly neighborhood bankster:

New York’s biggest investment houses are shifting jobs out of the area and expanding in cheaper locales in the United States, threatening the vast middle tier of positions that form the backbone of employment on Wall Street.

They'll probably eventually move to the libertarian paradise Somalia.

Anderson Cooper copies Richard Chamberlain by "coming out" as a gay man after the entire world knows he is.

Somehow announcing what everybody knows makes him "courageous."
