You better believe "college for all" is a bad idea. Not just because it devalues a degree, but pushing academics instead of providing vocational education for those students not wanting a degree makes sure these students become part of the underclass when they can't do the work. The kids wind up dropping out, which is what the "reformers" want.
It's also a good way to force young kids into special education. Special education for students who are otherwise normal cognitively is a way to weed out the undesirables when they can't do age-inappropriate work (e.g., algebra in the seventh grade, "whole language" instead of phonics in the primary grades making them unable to read, write, and spell). These days, curriculum inappropriateness is being filtered down to younger and younger ages.
Don't hand me the crap it is about "raising the standards." This is all about tracking kids into a second-class status, almost like creating a caste system in America.
