Just What Does an "Implementation Specialist" Do?

Last night, as both of my readers know, I went on a tirade because the Reno Gazette-Journal quoted a disgraced and disgraceful former WCSD principal giving his opinion on the unconstitutional mandatory uniform policy at Reed High School in Sparks, Nevada. It described him as a former principal (true) who became an administrator (false) at Reed High School, but now he is a WCSD "implementation specialist" whereby he is still making a teacher's salary rather than an administrator's, which of course means he was demoted from his principal job. He has not been an administrator ever since he was ratted out as a principal who was banging his subordinates and demoted by former WCSD sup Heath Morrison.

What in the fuck is an "implementation specialist"? I went to the WCSD website to find a job description. Here it is:

IMPLEMENTATION SPECIALIST

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Under the general direction of the Chief Academic Officer and the Chief School Accountability Officer, the Implementation Specialist supports WCSD Strategic Plan goals and objectives relating to teacher performance and student learning by providing on-site professional development to build the capacity of teachers to deliver effective instruction through the Common Core State Standards. Implementation Specialists will be deployed in each zone as directed by the Chief Academic Officer and the Chief School Accountability Officer to work primarily with content area and grade level professional learning communities (PLCs) and with individual teachers to the extent possible. Implementation Specialists will collaboratively work with other WCSD departments in developing and implementing a transitions plan from current Nevada State Standards to the Common Core State Standards. Data-driven review and related discussion will drive improvement efforts. Perform related work as required.

EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Implementation Specialists will support grade level and/or content areas PLCs by teaching, modeling, and supporting collaborative structures; provide professional resources; assisting PLCs to analyze student work and various types of data; serve as a conduit of content and instructional expertise as well as on-site technical assistance and professional development with core materials; may model lessons as well as observe and offer feedback to teachers; support the implementation of effective research-based teaching strategies and reflective practices through a variety of methods, including PLC support; and will participate in a program of support and professional development in order to continually develop and refine their skills.

This is classic bureaucratic gobbledygook and jargon that obscures far more than it describes. When one cuts through the b.s. description, there is NO way such a "job" would be a full-time position for anybody. I mean, how much work is it to ensure that each teacher at a school follows the new Common Core and to provide "professional development" classes to achieve that goal?

It appears it's just a total make-work job that failed administrators or burned-out teachers who are part of the "club" take to pad their pensions.

It's a scandal that such jobs are created to help some incompetent or unethical crony while necessary jobs are cut and supplies are not provided for teachers, forcing them to pay out-of-pocket for them.
