Oh sure teachers' jobs have changed--for the worst. Watch there be a pitch for Temp for America in the future:
During the past decade or so, one of the significant changes is that federal and state accountability systems have altered the direction of teaching to focus on “data driven instruction.” Spurred by research, many school districts, including ours, are moving in this direction. This is a change, from what content was taught to how much the student learns. Instruction now is adjusted based on a variety of data from student learning levels (where each child is academically) to demographics, attendance and school climate.
Translation is teachers, especially those in Title I schools, are being forced to teach to the "test." Actually there isn't ANY credible research at ALL supporting these harebrained "reform" efforts.
Nevada schools are far more down the privatization road than are Oregon's. This idiot governor here has gotten somewhat on the "reform" bandwagon although not as far gone as some. Some charter schools are here, including some online "schools," but the main "reform" is the "open enrollment" nonsense. Nevada, however, has a state superintendent of instruction who is openly hostile to the very existence of public ed.
Just like our president and his secretary of education.
