That's because this Marvin Moss principal decided to get the hell out of Dodge in another state when he was already accused of embezzling public or rather union funds (which of course is indirectly public money). I mean there is no way around him losing his job, and he should automatically have his license revoked.
Not disclosing the charges or conviction is even worse.
Mike Mieras, chief of police for the school district said Stansberry did not let the district know about charges filed against him. Stansberry was sentenced to five years probation and ordered to pay back $26,796 in restitution for money he embezzled from 2007-2009 while a principal at an elementary school in the Benton Harbor Area School district. He was also sentenced to 30 days in jail. The judge said Stansberry could serve the time next summer as not to interfere with his current job.
He's a convicted criminal, and this is automatically disqualifying.
Here is the story mentioned in the link above:
Police say that at the time of the embezzlement Stansberry was one of three people on a board that administered the fund.
Before being sentenced, Stansberry apologized for his actions, telling the court he was under "financial stress," at the point of being unable to make mortgage payments and put food on the table for his family.
"Now I'm paying the debt I owe," he said.
Stansberry left Benton Harbor schools and took a job with a charter school in Grand Rapids in August 2009. He said he later worked for a private company, lost that job, and left Michigan for the position in Nevada in 2011.
State police Detective Sgt. Doug Kill of the Niles post said school officials reviewing records of the administrators association fund found discrepancies. Police were contacted, and forensic accounting showed the extent of the embezzlement.
Stansberry, who has no prior criminal record, took money from the fund by writing checks to himself, Kill said.
Why wasn't his license revoked in Michigan? I mean, this is almost as bad as it gets apart from sexual crimes. I wonder if the guy had a sealed personnel file and was allowed to resign in lieu of a dismissal and then felt he could be free to lie on an application for employment. In any case, the school district from where he worked at the time he committed his embezzlement should have immediately contacted the licensing board. The criminal case is secondary to this as this is professional misconduct as well as criminal.
WCSD's applications, at least for teachers, have a slew of questions with about half of them asking the same question in different ways in order to disqualify candidates. I get fired over nothing, and I can never again work for them, but somehow this guy slipped through the cracks.
Update: Checked the Michigan educator lookup, and Stansberry has no negative information regarding his license. Here is what it shows:
