The Beginning of the End

for public education awaits in Nevada as anti-public education superintendent of education James W. Guthrie is going to lobby Bill Gates for more handouts on how to improve the teaching force in the state. Translated this means getting rid of "expensive" teachers who are either 50 or more years of age, make 50 or more thousand a year, or both, and bring in dumb shit temps from TFA to screw over kids in Title I schools, at least to start.

James Guthrie, Nevada superintendent of public schools, said he will meet with Bill Gates in April.

Guthrie, earning a reputation for speaking his mind on the problems with education, will lobby the billionaire and founder and chairman of Microsoft for a revolving fund to pay more to effective teachers.

Guthrie said he wants teachers to be enticed to teach in Nevada. He said he wants tomorrow’s brightest college graduates to consider teaching in Nevada as a choice right up with getting an MBA, a law degree or working for Goldman Sachs.

Guthrie said he wants effective teachers to make as much as principals.

So people who go into education now are idiots, right, asshole? You said yourself only ten percent of the teaching force in Nevada was "effective."

This is from a guy who hasn't taught in many, many decades and is as clueless as Bill Gates, who has never taught at all but wants to buy public education and public opinion.

By the way, there is NO way "effective" teachers will make as much as principals, and WHO is going to judge WHO is "effective"? That's right, principals, most of whom were failed teachers but had political connections to move up the ladder.

Just watch the favoritism run amuck.

"Merit pay" has been tried, idiot, and it has NEVER worked in any school district in the history of the United States.

Furthermore, bragging about how teaching should be held to the same standard of prestige as being an MBA or working for Goldman Sachs will hardly endear you to the public.
