It's bad enough to be diagnosed with lung cancer, let alone be faced with the stigma resulting from it being largely--but by no means entirely--a "smoker's disease."
My niece's husband, who at 72 is considerably older than she is, has battled lung cancer for four-and-a-half years and is still hanging in there.
He was at our Thanksgiving get-together yesterday and ate a lot of food. Apparently whatever medication he's taking must have ramped up his metabolism so that he doesn't put on any weight.
Over four years ago he had been diagnosed with lung cancer, and the doctors said he might not make it to 2010 or at most live two years.
He also had suffered a major heart attack several years ago, and he says the heart attack was much worse than the cancer.
