It's called propaganda. By the time the public was made aware of what the reformers were REALLY about, it was almost too late to reverse the situation.
The fact is you can't accept anything at face value. You have to look at the background of whoever is making a claim like this to see if his or her intentions are honorable.
Given the politics of the past thirty-five years, it should be obvious these people are anything but honorable.
