Sounds like the typical spoiled brat rich kid who chickenhawked his way out of the military in the 1960s.
At least fellow rich kids Dan Quayle and AWOL George W. Bush were involved with the military albeit in the National Guard. They are in the same age bracket as Trump.
And what was the hair apparent doing when so many men and a few women risked their lives for a unwinnable war that stretched on for several more years because Nixon sabotaged the Paris Peace Talks?
He was having fun screwing around and helping his daddy with the real estate business following his stint at a lesser-regarded Ivy League school, the University of Pennsylvania:
Instead Trump attended Fordham for two years before transferring to the University of Pennsylvania, where he took economics courses at its famed Wharton School. (According to a book by Gwenda Blair, Trump was allowed to transfer into the Ivy League school because of family connections, and has exaggerated his performance at Penn.)
During his time in school, Trump received four student deferments from the draft.
“If I would have gotten a low [draft] number, I would have been drafted. I would have proudly served,” he told ABC News. “But I got a number, I think it was 356. That’s right at the very end. And they didn’t get — I don’t believe — past even 300, so I was — I was not chosen because of the fact that I had a very high lottery number.”
As Trump was enjoying the Ivy League and avoiding the war, McCain was about to become one of its most high-profile casualties.
Trump, when he shot off his mouth about McCain, said people weren't insulted by his remarks, but a hell of a lot of people were.
And lest people think this was a one-time thing with a Republican candidate trashing veterans, you only have to look at what happened with John Kerry and especially Max Cleland to know veteran trashing is a well-known GOP pastime
This continues despite the fact that the GOP relies heavily on veterans for its support, and the fact veterans tend to lean right politically.
Trump's mouth, especially over this, should be the end of his campaign, but it won't be, of course.
