Obituary: Mail order catalog founder Lillian Vernon, 88, has died.

A woman who fled with her family from Nazi Germany when she was a young girl, she founded the company that bears her name in the early 1950s. She later expanded the company to offer cosmetics and jewelry.

There are certain public employees--police and fire--where it makes sense they cannot strike since there is public safety involved. But there is no reason why teachers in 37 states are not allowed to do it. Because they are not allowed to in these states, the "unions" are basically worthless. They sure as hell don't "protect" teachers, good, bad, or indifferent. Most are too busy cutting deals with districts while forcing innocent teachers out.
