Why should we be surprised homeownership is at a 50-year low? It has been going south ever since the mid-1970s, when the real estate industry decided to jack up prices because they assumed everybody had two-income households.
Single women not born into privilege find it nearly impossible to crack the real estate market, whether they are in "glamorous" careers in NYC or SF or in ordinary jobs in southern Oregon. If they can buy homes at all, it would be manufactured housing with space rent or condos.
