Obituary: Actress Christine Kaufmann, 72, has died after a battle with leukemia. She was married to actor Tony Curtis in the 1960s, had two children with him, divorced him later that decade, and then resumed her acting career:

After the marriage, Kaufmann resumed her acting career, appearing in "Murders in the Rue Morgue" (1971), "Red Rings of Fear" (1978), "Day of the Idiots" (1981), "Lili Marleen" (1981), and "Lola" (1981).

Later in life, she became a successful business owner, with a line of cosmetics in Germany. She also wrote several books on health and beauty.

Obituary: Actress Darlene Cates, 69, noted for her role in the film What's Eating Gilbert Grape, died Sunday in Texas:

Cates won the role after appearing on the "Sally Jessy Raphael" show in January 1992 to discuss her depression and struggles as a 500-pound-plus person in an episode titled "Too Heavy To Leave the House." Peter Hedges, whose book "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" was adapted for the film, had seen the episode and brought the video of Cates to the movie's director, Lasse Hallstrom. To Hedges, Cates was exactly how he had imagined the homebound mother character in his book.
