Before the race, these were the odds.
Most of the top horses are not there today for various reasons.
Update: Tapwrit has won this year's Belmont Stakes taking the stretch from favorite Irish War Cry. One-eyed horse Patch came in third, while Gormley came in fourth.
There was a mess on the first turn, and Hollywood Handsome got the worst of it. He was eased and vanned off the track, but he is okay. He received a superficial cut as a result of being bumped on the first turn.
The time of the race was 2:30.02, way off Secretariat's unbreakable 2:24.
This was trainer Todd Pletcher's third Belmont win and his second win in this year's Triple Crown. His Always Dreaming won the Kentucky Derby.
This was jockey Jose Ortiz's first Belmont win.
As Tapwrit's name indicates, he is a son of perhaps the top sire in the world right now, Tapit. Tapit is a grandson (through Pulpit) of A.P. Indy, by far the best offspring of Seattle Slew in terms of breeding, and A.P. Indy is also a grandson of Secretariat through his dam Weekend Surprise.
The race thanks to NYRA:
