Children inherit new mutations when they build up in the father’s sperm and the mother’s eggs. Men pass on more mutations than women because they make sperm throughout their lives, using a process that is not perfect at copying DNA. And so, as the man ages, his sperm accumulate more and more mutations. Women pass on fewer mutations because they tend to be born with their full complement of eggs.
How anybody could possibly overlook my choice for the creepiest is hard to imagine.
Probably the creepiest age gap ever for a movie was Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe in The Misfits. It makes me cringe every single time I see it. Marilyn Monroe was just 34 years old when she made it, and she looked 34. She was young, and she looked young. Gable, however, was 59 years old during the time of the filming, and died shortly thereafter. He looked at least 70. He was weatherbeaten thanks to years of hard living following the death of his third wife Carole Lombard. He looked absolutely terrible. It makes one wonder what in the hell the filmmakers were thinking when they put those two together to be romantic leads. I am surprised this obvious choice wasn't mentioned.
