This article, from four years ago, is a pack of lies refuted by anybody who lived through the era. The reason "middle class" families had it easier is because women were kicked out of the labor force following World War II to make room for the returning servicemen. It was further buttressed by the notion of family wage jobs, which were also designed to force women out by paying men inflated pay. The article is a lie. I don't know how a misleading article ever got past the editors. Few "middle-class" families had maids. Why would they need them with a stay-at-home wife?
Only the wealthy had "maids." They were not "middle class."

I would love nothing better than to see this shit outlawed.
Good riddance to it when it does eventually happen. Human rights abuses are not okay. Men have no right to sex, no right to women's bodies, no right to pay for them. Prostitution isn't "sex work" or "work" of any kind. It is a license to rape women who are almost always forced into a situation like this because of financial pressures. There is no "consent" where money is exchanged. People on the outside just think this is "harmless fun," but it isn't. Johns and pimps are human scum who should be serving prison time and labeled sex offenders for life.
Wherever this is made legal, sex trafficking goes up because the demand for prostitution goes up. Meanwhile, the so-called "high pay" these women get goes way, way, way down. This trafficking in human beings has to stop all across the board. Jailing the men who buy and sell women and labeling them sex offenders would all but eliminate it entirely. These men's arrogance in thinking they are owed sex from women because they buy them would pale in importance if they can no longer find a job or a place to live.
