Another obit: Noted Broadway producer Hal Prince, 91, also passed away today. He is remembered for having won more Tony Awards than anybody else.
He died at his home in Iceland.
Prince was born on January 30, 1928 in New York City and majored in English at the University of Pennsylvania. He began his theatrical career in 1948 as an assistant to Broadway director and producer George Abbott._____
Under Abbott's mentorship, Prince was introduced to Robert Griffith, who would become his producing partner. By 1955, he won his first Tony with the production, "The Pajama Game," he co-produced with Griffth. It was named best musical.
Prince went on to direct and produce some of the greatest and long-running musicals, including "Fiddler on the Roof," "Cabaret," "Sweeney Todd" and "Evita."
He amassed 21 Tonys, including eight for directing, eight for producing, two as producer of the year's Best Musical and three special Tony Awards.
Live stream of second night of the Democratic debate is here.
My thoughts: I think we can stick a fork in Kamala Harris. She was nervous, she was flustered, and she did poorly. Booker wasn't too great, either, and he tried to go after Biden and failed. De Blasio was another one who was not impressive.
Biden did better this time around despite being the target of most of the other people on this stage. Inslee and Bennet did well, I thought. Inslee scored big points for me when he talked about how women are underpaid in careers in which they dominate, and he did something about it as governor. They tried to keep above board while the moderators like Tapper kept trying to pit one Democrat against the other. Gabbard did well going after Harris's career as a prosecutor and attorney general. Gillibrand scored some points when she could get a word in but fell on her ass when she tried to nail Biden on the issue of women in the labor force. So did Castro. Yang tried to be above it all, but he shouldn't be on the stage not having experience as an elected official.
