This from five years ago is this interesting article about the impact Mount Tambora in Indonesia had when it exploded in a massive eruption in 1815 killing thousands and impacting weather worldwide for at least a couple of years.
Tambora's eruption was more powerful than Krakatoa's in 1883, and it had a longer effect although Krakatoa had the loudest explosion in recorded history.
