COVID-19 is staging a big comeback in states like Florida, Texas, and Arizona.

Abbott, who allowed bars to reopen in May when thousands of revelers flouting social distancing rules celebrated Memorial Day weekend, forced them to close again from Friday and scaled back restaurant dining to 50 percent capacity - the most dramatic reversals yet as confirmed coronavirus cases surge.

He also said rafting and tubing outfitters on Texas' popular rivers must close and that outdoor gatherings of 100 people or more must be approved by local governments.

The Florida agency that governs bars also said Friday the consumption of alcohol at bars across the state would be prohibited immediately as daily infections soared to nearly 9,000 - shattering the daily tolls from the previous two days.

Coronavirus cases are climbing rapidly among young adults in a number of states where bars, stores and restaurants have reopened. Young people have started going out again, many without masks, in what health experts see as irresponsible behavior.

Dr. Fauci says it could get worse:

Dr. Anthony S. Fauci delivered an urgent “message to the country” on Friday, warning that coronavirus outbreaks largely in the south and west could engulf the country and pleading for social distancing and mask wearing as an obligation to others.

But even as Dr. Fauci invoked “a societal responsibility,” Vice President Mike Pence at the same briefing twice defended President Trump’s crowded campaign rallies and often maskless supporters, praising the exercises of free speech and assembly.

“The freedom of speech, the right to peaceably assemble is enshrined in the Constitution of the United States,” he said, “and we have an election coming up this fall.”

What a fucking dolt Pence is. There is no "constitutional right" to infect others with a deadly virus.

Another cold case murder has been solved through genetic genealogy.  I like to keep track of these cases because it is so interesting the ability to solve cases that were once deemed unsolvable.  A few cases will still be that way because of no DNA at the site, but a lot of them are finally being resolved.

Like so many cases, the person who committed the murder is now dead:

Cops in Columbus investigating the murder of Kelly Ann Prosser said DNA evidence identified Harold Wayne Jarrell as the child's killer. Jarrell, who spent five years in prison for an unrelated, child sex crime, died in 1996 at the age of 67.

Prosser was found beaten, sexually assaulted and strangled to death after she was abducted on September 20, 1982 while on her way home from the Indianola Elementary School in Columbus.

Police said they used the help of Advance DNA, a company that maintains a genealogical database, to trace genetic evidence recovered from the crime scene 38 years ago back to Jarrell.

More is here:

A family tree was developed who both work in the cold case unit. They then followed up on leads with possible family members. The initial family match was with a third cousin.

“I don’t know that his name would’ve come up without the DNA,” Bodker said. ”(Jarrell) was not on our radar at all as someone who committed this murder.”

“His DNA profile has been in CODIS (Combined DNA Index System) since it started,” he said. “If there was any other evidence in other crimes, it would’ve generated a hit.”

Jarrell had been convicted in 1977 of a sex crime involving a child in Columbus and served about five years in prison, Bodker said.
