June 8 Reads

Obituary:  Singer Bonnie Pointer of The Pointer Sisters died this morning of cancer at the age of 69.

Her youngest sister, June, died back in 2006 at the age of 52.  It doesn't seem like it has been that long ago.  It was, however, as I noted it briefly on this blog fourteen years ago.  She, too, died of cancer.

The Grammy-winning singer's career began in 1969 when she and her sister June began their band as a duo.

Later came their sisters Anita then Ruth.

They received their vocal training at their father's church in West Oakland, California and went on to win three Grammy Awards as well as a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1994.

Their first hit was Yes We Can then came the song Fairytale.

Bonnie left The Pointer Sisters in 1977 for a solo career that produced the hit disco cover of the song Heaven Must Have Sent You.
