Joe Biden once again enjoys a slew of endorsements by major newspapers as well as a magazine endorsement.
In order to expel the worst president of modern times, many voters might be willing to vote for almost anybody. Fortunately, to oust President Trump in 2020, voters do not have to lower their standards. The Democratic nominee, former vice president Joe Biden, is exceptionally well-qualified, by character and experience, to meet the daunting challenges that the nation will face over the coming four years.
Those challenges have been, to varying degrees, created, exacerbated or neglected by the incumbent: the covid-19 pandemic, which has claimed more lives in this country than anywhere else in the world; rising inequality and racial disparities; a 21st-century, high-tech authoritarianism ascendant in the world, with democracy in retreat; a planet at risk due to human-caused climate change.

Enough is enough. Four years after Donald Trump won the presidential election, it is time for a nationwide reckoning.
The election of Democrat Joe Biden in November will go far toward restoring honor and integrity to the presidency and the national ethos.
What must change, however, is who leads this country. The crises of the past year have only magnified the inadequacy of President Donald Trump who, in his four years in office, has added to the volatility rather than steer America out of it. Oregonians should join the chorus of Americans seeking a path out of our chaos and vote for former vice president Joe Biden for president.
Our decision to endorse in this race reverses our policy in 2012 and 2016. We heard the community’s disappointment over our past non-endorsements loud and clear. Particularly at this precipitous moment, we recognize both the privilege and obligation we have to advocate for the candidate who can best lead our country forward.

It’s time to heal and work to unite the country. To stem the spread of the coronavirus, rebuild the economy, honestly confront racial and economic inequality, aggressively address climate change and reestablish the nation as a respected world leader.
For that, the United States needs a president who will put the country ahead of personal and political self-interests. Who believes in science. Who cares about people of all economic and racial backgrounds. Who has a history of reaching across the political aisle rather than demonizing those who disagree with him.
It’s time to elect Joe Biden.
He’s the candidate who wears a mask and recognizes that the pandemic will not magically disappear, supports the House extension of full unemployment benefit subsidies as the country faces massive unemployment, selected the first woman of color as a vice-presidential candidate for a major party and has a plan to reduce, not increase, the nation’s use of fossil fuels.

The magazine The New Yorker:
In an established autocracy—like Vladimir Putin’s Russia, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s Turkey, or Mohammed bin Salman’s Saudi Arabia—it is nearly impossible to criticize or to investigate the autocrat. In the liminal condition in which we now live, with public institutions threatened but not yet defeated by an elected President, the would-be autocrat must still face the indignities of journalism, legal inquiry, and popular opposition. He must also face an open election. The polls suggest that Joe Biden currently leads the 2020 Presidential race. We suffer no delusions: Trump has on his side demagogic skill and ruthlessness, a willingness to break any norm or law in order to win. Nevertheless, we hope that Biden will displace him by a margin that prevents prolonged dispute or the kind of civil unrest that Trump appears to relish. Ideally, Biden will have an opportunity to govern with Democratic majorities in both the House and the Senate, which would vastly increase his chances of passing legislation to confront the nation’s array of crises.
