With this younger generation of filmmakers and so-called "comics," I doubt many of them have ever taken a course in ethics. How else can you explain the dipshit director of Cuties or the clearly unethical "entrapment" of Mr. 9/11, Rudy Giuiliani, in order to make a film by using Allen Funt-type methods? However, Funt never resorted to the gutter on his classic television series, Candid Camera, unlike this Sacha Baron Cohen character.
It took me awhile to even understand what the Giuliani flap was even about, but then I finally figured out this was a goddamned movie, and Barron Cohen managed to get actors to con an unsuspecting Giuliani into a hotel room and create an entrapment scheme that is clearly unethical regardless of how one feels about the former NY mayor and Trump legal hack. Barron Cohen knows full well he is in the clear legally since Giuliani is a public figure who has little legal recourse to sue; Barron Cohen also knows full well he is in the clear even with private citizens he uses because of waivers with itty-bitty print that says signing the documents waives their right to sue.
Baron Cohen has gone around the media talking about how he released this footage and then his new Borat flick in order to "save the country," but in truth he is no better than Rudy G. and arguably worse. His actions are sociopathic without any regard of consequences. Believe me, if the shoe was on the other foot and a Democratic politician was conned in this manner, Barron Cohen would be toast.
