 The big story of the day, of course, is the attempted recall of California Gavin Newsom, and it has apparently failed:

Projection:
Incumbent Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom is the Projected Winner in the California Governor Recall. "No" on the recall to remove Gavin Newsom will defeat "Yes." Question 2 on who will replace is now null and void.

Really, it was no surprise. Newsom is coming up for re-election next year, so the whole recall business was idiotic on its face. Furthermore, all the anti-vax shit is teetering on collapse. Ditto the anti-mask shit.  This is what spurred the recall attempt. Since Newsom has survived the recall, the other part being decided--who would replace him--is moot.

Obituary:  After years of battling cancer, SNL cast member Norm Macdonald, 61, has died.

Born on October 17, 1959, in Quebec City, Macdonald started his show business career in the comedy clubs of Canada, developing the deadpan style that would become both his trademark and a highly influential touchstone for a generation of comics. After being a contestant on Star Search in 1990, he landed his first regular TV writing gig on The Dennis Miller Show, fronted by the man who anchored “Weekend Update” from 1986-91.

Macdonald was hired to write for Roseanne Barr’s sitcom Roseanne for the 1992-93 season before landing the coveted gig at NBC’s Saturday Night Live.
