Premature obit, but I will get it out of the way:  Actress Anne Heche, 53, is now brain dead and is on life support pending possible organ donations.  She crashed her car into a private home last Friday, and the resulting fire destroyed the residence.  The woman who was in the house was injured, but she and her two dogs survived.

The fire was so intense, it took rescuers about an hour to free Heche from the wreckage.  Shortly afterwards, she slipped into unconsciousness and then a coma.  The coma was NOT induced.  Her lungs were severely damaged from smoke inhalation, and that alone would likely be fatal, but she suffered from anoxia to her brain making her situation hopeless.

Police are investigating the accident as a felony, but it is all for naught.

She has two sons, 13 and 20.  She has long been estranged from her 85-year-old mother.  When Anne passes, her mother will have outlived four of her five children.  There is only one sister left.

As for her legacy, "Anne had a huge heart and touched everyone she met with her generous spirit," says the rep on behalf of the family. "More than her extraordinary talent, she saw spreading kindness and joy as her life's work — especially moving the needle for acceptance of who you love. She will be remembered for her courageous honesty and dearly missed for her light."

Update:  She was declared legally dead today, Friday, August 12, 2022.
