This kind of crap is going on in my backyard. I worked part of the summer in the Summer Experience program at Griffin Creek Elementary. I think it is the largest of the 12 or so regular elementary schools in my district. It used to be pre-COVID there was very little turnover in schools like this one, but now schools like this and my current school have a plethora of probationary teachers.
I think the district like so many others engages in age discrimination, so people like me cannot get teaching jobs and have to settle for classified work before retirement. Meanwhile, if somebody proclaims himself or herself as "non-binary" or some other silly designation, that person gets hired.
However, there are a number of parents in my district who are irate this person was hired as a first-grade teacher. I do not know who the teacher is although I do know the principal there.
Snip:
A group of parents and community members took to social media this week to complain that a nonbinary first-grade teacher had been hired to teach at Griffin Creek Elementary School. Some of them then took their protest to Thursday’s Medford School District board meeting.
A few-dozen parents and community members attended the meeting at North Medford High. Board chair Suzanne Messer warned audience members “complaints about staff members cannot be discussed in open session and must be handled through the district’s complaint process.”
