Big Money Needs To Be Out of Politics

The Oregon governor's race is why we need to get big money out of politics and why Citizens United ranks among the worst USSC decisions ever.

We have a billionaire, founder of Nike Phil Knight, who is 84 and isn't going to be around that much longer, declare war on Democrats simply because he doesn't like Democratic gubernatorial nominee Tina Kotek and wants to get her and her "extremist politics" out of Oregon.  He is trying to achieve this end by openly ratfucking with an election by bankrolling the independent candidacy of former Democrat Betsy Johnson in the attempt to peel off Democratic votes and get the candidate he really wants, Christine Drazan, in the governor's office.

Drazan is barely ahead of Kotek in the three-way race, with her lead anywhere from 1 to 3 points, while Johnson's percentages hovering around 18 percent have barely budged.  This is bad because Kotek, in an ordinary election, would easily win the governorship.  Johnson has no shot at all, and shame on her for thinking by taking dirty money from Knight to ratfuck the Democrats is at all a good idea.

Drazan is trying to sound moderate in her positions, which has historically been the case with GOP elected officials, but she is an antiabortion nutter, and abortion is a huge issue this year with women.

If Johnson really had the interests of Oregonians at heart, she would never have run as a "spoiler."  Shame on her for selling Democrats down the river.

Yes, it is possible Johnson could take some GOP support from Drazan, but the polls don't show enough of them will vote for her.
