Obituary:  Football great Franco Harris, 72, known for his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, died just two days before the 50th anniversary of the so-called "Immaculate Reception."

And for those too young or distracted at the time, what was it?

In 1972, the Steelers finished the regular season 11-3 and won a division title for only the second time in franchise history. They played host to a playoff game at Three Rivers Stadium, but trailed 7-6 in the final minute after the Oakland Raiders scored with 1:13 to go in the fourth quarter.

On 4th-and-10 with 22 seconds on the clock, the Steelers called “66 circle option.” The pass protection broke down, Bradshaw had to escape the pocket and threw a desperation pass down the middle of the field to Frenchy Fuqua.

Raiders safety Jack Tatum broke up the pass, but Harris followed the play, caught the deflected ball off his shoe-strings and rambled for a 60-yard touchdown that won the game and put the Steelers in the AFC championship game for the first time.

It became known as “The Immaculate Reception.”

Given how important abortion was in the midterms, especially in the so-called "red" states, Florida's Ron DeSantis can kiss off any presidential ambitions.  He is handing Democrats a winning issue.

The media created a phony controversy because the public is NOT "evenly divided" over this issue.  It never was and never will be.

Abortion rights is supported overwhelmingly by the American people.  DeSantis can kiss off his presidential ambitions, as I said.

What is really needed is to bring back real pensions instead of continuing the disastrous 401k system.

The reforms are better than nothing, but they don't address the real problem.

Defined contribution programs are always inferior to defined benefit pensions because the former only lasts as long as the money is there, while the latter lasts as long as you live.

My guess is corporations that stand to benefit from increased participation--the financial services industry--wrote these sections of the legislation.

Another obituary:  Actress Diane McBain, 81, seen often on films and television especially in the 1960s and 1970s, has reportedly died.  She was a cast member of the 1960s Warner private eye series Surfside 6  and appeared in films such as Spinout with Elvis Presley:

A contract player at Warner Bros. straight out of high school, McBain broke out as the loopy Daphne on the 1960-62 Miami Beach-set crime show Surfside 6. Her character owned a yacht, the Daffy II, that was berthed next door to the houseboat that served as home base for the private detectives portrayed by Williams, Donahue and Lee Patterson.

She portrayed Diana St. Clair, an author of books that help women get their men, in Spinout (1966), finding Elvis’ Mike McCoy the perfect subject to track for her next project, The Perfect American Male.

Montana voters soundly rejected antiabortion nonsense in the midterms, but the language of the proposal should be noticed and challenged.
