The Benjamin Foster case has been resolved.  Details will emerge in the coming hours.  He had been in a Grants Pass house  and in a standoff with police today.  Link is here.

Foster is now reportedly in custody, not dead as earlier reported.  Hopefully he will be in prison for good.

It never ceases to amaze me the lengths to which these antiabortion people will go to shame women who dared to have sex, willing or not.  This is just outrageous.

Obituary:  Former Minnesota senator David Durenberger, 88, has died.  He was a Republican, but not a flaming wingnut.

There was such a thing not long ago as a sane Republican:

Durenberger — a former executive secretary to GOP Gov. Harold LeVander, former corporate attorney and former captain in the U.S. Army Reserve — won a U.S. Senate seat in 1978. He served three terms and championed health care reform. He pushed proposals to expand Medicare benefits, protect rights for disabled people, including the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act, and to promote gender equity.

"Senator Dave Durenberger was a true public servant," Democratic U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, of Minnesota, said in a statement. Klobuchar, who holds Durenberger's old seat, said he had personally showed her much kindness when she was first elected in 2006.

What in the HELL?

Conflict of interest is apparently okay with the USSC:

The New York Times reports that “a former colleague of Mrs. Roberts has raised concerns that her recruiting work poses potential ethics issues for the chief justice. Seeking an inquiry, the ex-colleague has provided records to the Justice Department and Congress indicating Mrs. Roberts has been paid millions of dollars in commissions for placing lawyers at firms — some of which have business before the Supreme Court, according to a letter obtained by The New York Times.”

Jane Sullivan Roberts left a law firm where she was a partner after her spouse was confirmed as Chief Justice.
