Belmont Stakes 2023 Results

 The winner of the 155th Belmont Stakes is one for the record books as the first winning woman trainer in Triple Crown history, Jena Antonucci, has won the race with her entry, Arcangelo.  Javier Castellano, jockey, has won his first Belmont to go with his first Derby win this year.  Favorite Forte came in second in a fast stretch run but couldn't quite make it to first.

Tapit Trice was third, Hit Show and Angel of Empire dead heated for fourth.  The horses were tightly packed around the far turn, so it could have been anybody's race to win.

The time was 2:29.23, way off Secretariat's unbreakable record.

He is a son of the late Arrogate, a Breeders' Cup Classic and Travers Stakes winner, who had to be euthanized in 2020 at the age of only seven.  He is the maternal grandson of top sire Tapit.

A view from the backside, as the three surviving jockeys of the four opponents (Danny Gargan, who rode Pvt. Smiles, died in a car accident in 1975) talked about that fateful day fifty years ago.
