Obituary:  Lead singer of the group Smash Mouth, Steve Harwell, has unfortunately died at the age of 56 a day after his connections announced he was in hospice.  I am not that "up" on more recent popular music, but certainly the band's smash hit "All Star" is instantly memorable.

He died surrounded by his family and friends in Boise, Idaho.  He had suffered from liver failure.

Snip:

'Steve should be remembered for his unwavering focus and impassioned determination to reach the heights of pop stardom. And the fact that he achieved this near-impossible goal with very limited musical experience makes his accomplishments all the more remarkable.'

'His only tools were his irrepressible charm and charisma, his fearlessly reckless ambition, and his king-size cajones. Steve lived a 100 percent full-throttle life. Burning brightly across the universe before burning out,' it concluded.

Harwell's official cause of death has not been made public, but it comes two years after the singer retired from performing in 2021 due to a series of alcohol related health issues.

They might as well call it "Burned Out Man" this year.

Another obit of note:  Singer Gary Wright, 80, known for 70s hits like "Dream Weaver," has died after a long battle with Parkinson's and Lewy Body Dementia, according to his son.

Snip from People:

Before solidifying his mark on music, Gary was a child actor who then went on to Broadway. After starring in the musical Fanny, he studied medicine and then psychology in New York and Berlin.

In addition to Spooky Tooth, he was also a member of Wonderwheel briefly in the early 1970s and the multimember supergroup Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band. He contributed to many of the solo albums by the late Beatle George Harrison, including All Things Must Pass and Cloud Nine.
