Saturday Reads

Despite the fog and low clouds, the annular eclipse that went through southern Oregon was clearly visible through either camera solar filters or eclipse glasses.  It was one spectacular sight, that is all I have to say.  I went on the annual Bikes 'n' Brews ride (the 20-mile version) for the Heart of the Rogue event in Medford, Oregon, and I stopped in Central Point at a good spot to view the eclipse with my glasses.  I didn't have a solar filter, so there are no pictures I took of it.  However, you can find some here at this link.

It goes without saying men have no business competing in sports earmarked for women.  I just wish people would simply call these men cheaters.

A good example was the outrageous bike event of the other day where two male cheaters won the top sports in a women's event.

Obituary:  Actress Piper Laurie, 91, has reportedly died.  No, it was not her real name, which was Rosetta Jacobs.  For some reason she changed it at the beginning of her acting career.  Anyway, here is some background from the link:

Born Rosetta Jacobs in Detroit on Jan. 22, 1932, she was plucked out of Los Angeles High School at age 17 and signed to a Universal contract for $250 a week, which would run up to $1,750 a week after seven years.

She made her debut as Ronald Reagan’s daughter in the 1950 film “Louisa” and then went on to star in a series of undistinguished comedies and musicals, including a foray into the Francis the talking mule series called “Francis Goes to the Races.” As an ingenue she was the love interest of such up-and-comers as Tony Curtis and Rock Hudson and established stars including Tyrone Power and Victor Mature.

Among the early forgettable films were “Johnny Dark,” “Dangerous Mission,” “Ain’t Misbehavin’” and “No Room for the Groom.”
