A Few Reads for Friday the 27th

It is simply mindboggling the depths these women-hating assholes support when it comes to women's right to abortion.

What they want is 1950s bullshit that forced women into the home where they were nothing but servants, bangmaids, and incubators.  Fuck that crap.

There's more woman-hating insanity coming out of Texas.

Appalling:

Across the United States, maternal mortality rose 11 percent between 2019 to 2022; in Texas, over the same period, the maternal death rate surged 56 percent, according to an analysis of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data conducted by the Gender Equity Policy Institute.

“There’s only one explanation for this staggering difference in maternal mortality,” Nancy L. Cohen, the institute’s president, told NBC News. “All the research points to Texas’ abortion ban as the primary driver of this alarming increase.”

Obit:  Famed British actress Dame Maggie Smith, who would have turned 90 in December, died after a long and distinguished career.

Snip:

Born in Ilford, England, in 1934, Smith made her stage debut in 1952, playing Viola in a stage production of Twelfth Night. Her career spanned over 70 years, and included starring roles in television, film and theater.

Smith’s first film credit was in an uncredited appearance in 1956’s Child in the House, which she followed with a larger role in the crime drama Nowhere to Go in 1959.

A decade later, Smith won her first Oscar for Best Actress for her portrayal as an idealistic and unorthodox school teacher in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. Her second Academy Award came almost a decade later, for California Suite.
