Again, a winning ticket from California got purchased, and some lucky or unlucky person won a billion-dollar jackpot, this time Mega Millions. In California, there is NO lottery tax.
The total is actually around 2 billion, so the winner should get about 40 percent of the winnings.
The advertised total is always misleading, for it doesn't include fed and state/lottery taxes, if any of the latter, plus that total represents the gross if one takes the annuity winnings.
