These fascists wanted to put their ruinous ideas into reality AFTER the 2026 elections, but they exposed themselves early and are flailing like crazy. Krugman's piece is well worth reading.

Mitch McConnell is a little late to the party, I think. Thanks to his bullshit advocacy and putting through Federalist Society hack judges, he is in large part responsible for the mess this country is in.
