Alyce LaViolette Talk

The noted domestic violence expert gave a presentation about domestic violence and the Jodi Arias case in a talk from October 2013.

There was no way that crime was premeditated. It was a classic case of domestic abuse and a fight to the death.

The abuse wasn't just limited to the case itself. The prosecution engaged in all kinds of abuse against this particular expert, as we know.

She had harsh words for Dr. Drew Pinsky as well.

This Isn't "Free Speech"

The harassment of Arias trial defense witness Alyce LaViolette by a gang of thugs and dolts, aided and abetted by the likes of propaganda "news" network HLN, should not be allowed.

The media are entirely to blame for this insanity, and the various private websites and internet providers that don't enforce their terms of service should be criminally charged.

Regardless of whether the jury decides to pass the buck on this case, the defense will turn out to be victorious in the long term thanks to widespread prosecutorial misconduct in the case.

The right to a fair trial is one of the most important rights we have in this country. Clueless people don't have the right to thwart that right because they belong to a cult masquerading as a religion or they don't have the ability to think critically.

This is nothing but witness intimidation.

Jodi Arias Trial: Day 45

Redirect of the defense's domestic violence expert, Alyce LaViolette, will continue today at 10:30 PDT.

There will be Friday sessions now into May, so we can expect this trial to lumber on for several more weeks.

It was painful listening to cross yesterday, although LaViolette more than held her own against persecutor Juan Martinez's onslaught of misrepresentations and twisting of previous testimony.

Frankly, I would think that would be less of a concern to her than the insanity that is going on outside of the courtroom.

This really isn't a "free speech" issue since these haters are using and abusing private company websites like Amazon.com and Facebook to spew their filth.

LaViolette, who apparently spends little or no time on the internet, could sue the companies for allowing the hateful comments and pages to continue.

I blame much of this insanity on the media, especially CBS for not having critically looked at the Arias case in 2009 or even to have reported on it at all. CBS's reporters and producers had to know Arias was obviously suffering some real mental stress problems (PTSD) at the time and shouldn't have been interviewed at all, and the fact that people like Chris and Sky Hughes, among Travis Alexander's closest friends, were willing to lie about Arias and Alexander's relationship on national television most likely to preserve their own business interests and status among their Mormon friends. HLN was a latecomer to the case, but the network took the Hugheses' narrative and ran with it for ratings. We know now if we watched the trial without any media commentary that what the Hugheses and Travis's acquaintances said about the Arias-Alexander relationship to the media was exactly the opposite of really happened. Unfortunately, you had a C.A. and police take the Hugheses' bullshit at face value, and here we are. Jodi Arias could wind up on death row on the basis of lies told by people willing to throw her under the bus for their own ulterior motives.

It is a truly despicable state of affairs, this mob mentality.

Edit: After watching the questions from the jury part of the trial, there is no doubt in my mind many of them are watching HLN, which presents an absolutely distorted view of the trial and the evidence. This is a major, major no-no in American criminal law, and is certainly grounds for an appeal. I have no doubt that if she is convicted of murder one, despite there being NO evidence AT ALL from the prosecution for premeditation, the conviction and sentence will be overturned. Arizona, I have heard, has a high rate of convictions being overturned.

But if it is, how in the hell can Jodi Arias EVER get a fair trial in Arizona? It's impossible.

The blame falls squarely on Judge Sherry Stephens for NOT sequestering the jury. What in the HELL was she thinking?

Jodi Arias Trial Day 44: The Fiasco in Phoenix

Today's ridiculous cross-examination by persecuting attorney Juan Martinez of defense expert witness Alyce LaViolette continues at 9:30 PDT.

We will get more circular questioning, more trying to get only "yes" or "no" answers when the answers cannot be answered in a "yes" or "no" fashion, more mischaracterizing of Alyce's testimony, more hypotheticals, more screaming, more showboating, and more diversionary tactics from Juan to divert attention from the simple fact he can't prove first-degree premeditated murder.

Juan's pathetic cross tried to put words in ALV's mouth via semantic games about "stalking." Travis was shown be a liar and a manipulator in his dealings with women. He would go and trash-talk previous girlfriends in an attempt to get in a potential girlfriend's pants, to put it crudely. Furthermore, there was never any evidence Jodi stalked him; that was bullshit peddled by Travis's Mormon friends and "friends" like liar Chris Hughes who got up on national television and told the exact opposite of what really happened as revealed in the trial. He warned Jodi about Travis in emails, not warned Travis about Jodi, as far as we know, because Travis had a bad reputation as a player and a user.

Most damning of all was the simple fact you do NOT continue contact with your "stalker" via emails, phone sex messages, IMs, and text messages. You do NOT invite your stalker to visit your house and have sex with her twice, and have lurid pictures taken of both you as mementos of your encounter with your own camera. Not to forget you hired your "stalker" to clean your house and even suggested to your "stalker" she wear a French maid outfit.

Stalking is a serious offense. Travis did nothing whatsoever legally to stop Jodi from "stalking" him. That's because she wasn't a stalker but a friend with "benefits."

Jodi Arias Trial Recap

I suppose prosecuting attorney Juan Martinez is planning to use domestic violence expert Alyce LaViolette's remarks about "Snow White" and domestic violence as a way to call her a man-hating bitch in a desperate attempt to try and salvage his murder one case.

It might also be he is going through the motions of a cross-examination knowing the murder one charge was lost a long time ago, with the introduction of the phone sex tape and text messages by the defense.

What I cannot understand is why people can't seem to believe that Jodi Arias was an abused woman. No, most abused women don't kill their abusers, but one of the major reasons women are incarcerated for murder is because of domestic violence situations.

ALL of the evidence in this trial points to domestic abuse. ALL of it.

Does that mean Travis Alexander deserved to die in such a hideous manner? No, but his treatment of Jodi, confirmed through the documentary record, give us an understanding why she felt desperate enough to do what she did.

Travis was so screwed up, so needy, so manipulative. That 16-page text rant, which I believe was a result of Jodi having accidently left a picture Travis gave to her when she went back to Yreka, is one such obvious example the man was a manipulative bastard who engaged in character assassination via text/IM messages to try and guilt her and tear her down. (I had to rewatch the trial testimony by LaViolette to remember which rant it was, for there were several of them that were completely out of line, from rants over a drawing Jodi forgot, to an email sent to another man by mistake to one from May 26, 2008, that was unspecified as to why the rant but I think this had to do with his fear of getting in trouble with the bishop over his sexual conduct as Jodi had told a friend of hers about it.) He was a drama king for sure. It was all about him and how horrible she was, how she was a Hitler, a stalker, a three-hole wonder who regarded him as nothing more than a dildo with a heartbeat.

Travis was a major head case. I don't know what Jodi Arias ever saw in him. It's obvious to me why he wasn't married although he desperately wanted to be married. Word gets around in that tightly-knit Mormon culture. Otherwise, he'd have been married long before.

Marriage is almost a requirement in the LDS church although single people are members. However, older singles (those over 30) are regarded as second-class citizens in that church.

USA Today had a report on the utterly bizarre cross-examination of LaViolette yesterday:

Arias' defense attorneys have been building a case that she was battered and controlled by Alexander. Alyce LaViolette, a psychologist and expert in domestic abuse, has been on the witness stand for more than a week. On Thursday, she parsed the language of a 16-page Instant Message in which Alexander threatens Arias and compares her to Adolph Hitler, the devil, a prostitute and several sexually insulting names. And she went through a list of women with whom Alexander had exchanged flirtatious, suggestive and sexually explicit communications during the time he was carrying on a secret sexual relationship with Arias.

Defense attorney Jennifer Willmott took a verbal poke at Martinez near the very end of her questions.

"I guess I'll get this out of the way now," Willmott said to LaViolette, "Do you have a memory problem?" a question Martinez repeatedly asked of Arias and another witness on the stand.

Prosecutor Juan Martinez came out swinging when it was his turn to begin cross-examination. Minutes into his questioning, as he tried to force LaViolette to answer questions with yes or no answers, a frequent tactic, his voice rose to a high-pitched rant.

"Mr. Martinez, are you angry with me?" LaViolette asked calmly.

Martinez has anger issues, and he is VERY hard on the ears.

A Video Alice LaViolette Gave

talking about gender fairytales and domestic violence:

She mentions Snow White around 25 or 26 minutes into the speech.

That's so readers can understand why in the hell prosecutor Juan Martinez kept harping on fairytales in his disastrous cross-examination of LaViolette today.
