Chad Morisette finally took the Palin effigy down amid international criticism and neighborhood protests:

ChadMichael Morrisette, a professional window display designer who set up the life-size mannequin of Palin, said Wednesday evening that he had met with West Hollywood Mayor Jeffrey Prang and decided it was best to remove the decoration.

"There was a huge mob scene," Morrisette said of the onlookers -- and protesters -- the display attracted. "The whole thing became a life of its own."

Steve Whitmore, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, said that Morrisette and his partner invited Prang into their home for a "heart-to-heart" about the display after a man parked in front of their home, his black truck bearing a male dummy wearing a noose and T-shirt that read, "Chad, how does it feel?"

The McCain decoration remains, however.

The idiot who created the Sarah Palin effigy in West Hollywood tried to hide it by covering it with white sheets to prevent people from seeing it, but the controversy still isn't over with.

But note what happened when somebody hung an Obama effigy:

At the University of Kentucky, Martin Luther King Jr. Cultural Center interim director Chester Grundy said he was outraged by the incident. A rally was being planned for 7 p.m. EDT Wednesday, where staff and student leaders are expected to speak in response, he said.

Gov. Steve Beshear called the incident "embarrassing" and "deeply offensive."

"This was not political speech. It was simply hate," he said.

Raoul Cunningham, president of the Louisville chapter of the NAACP, said he is still trying to sort out his feelings "because there may be a double-meaning because Barack Obama is black, that he would be hung from a tree—that goes back to lynching."

John Johnson, executive director of the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights, called the action unacceptable even if it was a prank.

"It's astonishing that somebody would do that at this day and time," he said. "You would hope that our country has progressed further than that."

But it's all good, clean Halloween fun when it's a white woman.

Here is a followup on the Palin effigy story:

But Los Angeles County sheriff's officials said the mannequin sporting a beehive hairdo, glasses and a red coat does not rise to the level of a hate crime because it was part of a Halloween display.

"I'm not defending this; I'm not criticizing it. It doesn't rise to the level of hate crime," said Steve Whitmore, spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, who said he went out to the house himself to look at the display this morning.

"Now, if there was a crime against bad taste . . . "

Well, let Morrisette put up an effigy of Obama in a noose and see what happens. I'll bet the Secret Service would be knocking his door.

Effigies depicting violence against women are okay, but against blacks, no.

A moron and likely Obama supporter decided to help the McCain ticket by putting up a filthy Halloween display showing Sarah Palin in a noose. John McCain is shown in flames. Predictably this moron is young and doesn't have a clue this isn't acceptable.

Can you just IMAGINE ANYBODY doing the same thing with an Obama effigy? Are you kidding me? Somebody would probably call the Secret Service. (Photo: CBS)
