Bio to Watch This Week If I Remember

If I remember, I will try to watch this PBS bio of Johnny Carson. He was truly one of a kind.

The funniest moments were when he had Jim Fowler as a guest with Fowler's animals. It was often sidesplitting. One time Fowler brought an aardvark to the Tonight Show. This must have been 1984 or 1985, not long after I moved into a guesthouse in Reno. I just about split a gut laughing at Carson's reactions. He said the aardvark stank and wanted the animal away from him. Carson had those beady eyes, and the expression on his face around the aardvark was hilarious. I laughed so hard I woke several other people on my floor.

There isn't anybody these days who can do that double-take ala Cary Grant.

Here is an example of a Fowler clip. This one is from 1969:

Carson cried like the rest of us hearing Jimmy Stewart's poem about his dog Beau:

This Brings Back a LOT of Memories

Part four of a YouTube of Sing Along With Mitch from 1963, rerun in 1966.

It includes a very special guest singing along:

I LOVED this show when I was very young. It was on every Friday night.

People will recognize Bob McGrath, who went on to even greater fame on Sesame Street. He was a regular on this show.

Mitch Miller, 98, is still active today.
