Some fifty survivors and relatives of the Jonestown Massacre marked the 30th anniversary yesterday at east Oakland's Evergreen Cemetery.

Jim Jones, Jr. also recalls those times. His health today is not good:

Recently Jones was diagnosed with kidney failure. He will need dialysis and a transplant. He says the way he looks on it, 30 years ago he "had the opportunity to miss death" and now he attempts to live each day fully, volunteering at school and church activities and working on "how I can impact my world. I have been blessed by the grace of God."

He lives in the Bay Area and has a wife and three sons.

An Anniversary to Remember

This November 18 marks the 30th anniversary of the Jonestown massacre in Guyana. This link has some videos of the infamous Jim Jones cult, and no, I am not going to make comparisons to it and the cult surrounding our president-elect.

These clips are news reports from the time.

Shortly after Jonestown, there was the assassination of S.F. mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk.

I remember both of those tragedies very well; I followed the reports from KGO radio quite closely.
