Krolicki faces four felony counts of misappropriation of public money and falsifying accounts stemming from his management of the Nevada College Savings Plan during his two terms as treasurer. Kathryn Besser, his chief of staff in the treasurer’s office and on his current staff, faces two felony counts on the same charges.
They will be arranged Dec. 18 in Clark County District Court.
The indictment after a 20-month criminal investigation accuses them of spending without legislative authorization more than $6 million in state fees generated by the college savings program.
“What we’re claiming is that he failed to account for the money that was owed to the state of Nevada,” said Chief Deputy Attorney General Conrad Hafen, who is prosecuting the case.
