It Doesn't Look Like He'll Walk Like O.J.

Reports have it a bloodied cricket bat was involved in the killing of Oscar Pistorius's girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp:

A bloodied cricket bat is the central piece of evidence in the unfolding murder investigation into ReevaSteenkamp’s death.

City Press can reveal that police are investigating different scenarios involving the bat – one of which is that her boyfriend, Olympic hero Oscar Pistorius, used it to viciously assault her.

The police are also investigating two more possibilities: that Steenkamp may have used the bat in self-defence, or that Pistorius used it to break down the toilet door behind which Steenkamp was hiding from him.

All of those years of hard work, all of the groundbreaking feats, all of the inspiration in the world will no longer count when you are accused of first-degree murder.

Pistorius is only 26, but he has basically fucked away his entire life, and for what, assuming he's guilty?

Prosecutor Gerrie Nel said in court he would pursue a charge of premeditated murder against Pistorius for allegedly killing Steenkamp, a 29-year-old model known for her vamping, bikini pictures in men's magazines and appearances in cosmetics commercials. Police have said Steenkamp is 30. The discrepancy has not been explained.

Police said Friday that investigators conducted an autopsy on Steenkamp's body. Lt. Col. Katlego Mogale said the results of the autopsy would not be published.

Pistorius entered no plea at the hearing and his family left quickly, without speaking to journalists who followed them outside. In a statement later Friday, his family and management questioned the criminal charge the 26-year-old athlete faces.

"The alleged murder is disputed in the strongest terms," the statement read, without elaborating.

Of course there is a remote chance this was all a tragic accident, but it appears there was a history of domestic strife between the couple.

Somehow I don't think he will walk like O.J. Simpson did in his murder trial, and no, I am not making some idiotic joke about Oscar's disability. I just don't think he is going to get away with it.

Accident? He May Not Have a Leg to Stand On

I am just astounded by this report that Olympian Oscar Pistorius, who broke all kinds of barriers for the disabled by competing in the regular track events in the 2012 London Olympics, has been charged with the murder of his girlfriend.

It's just unreal:

The development stunned a nation that had elevated Mr. Pistorius to iconic status because of his ability to overcome acute adversity and represent South Africa’s achievements on the world stage.

Confirming the charges, police officials said they planned to oppose Mr. Pistorius’s expected application for bail at a court hearing scheduled for Friday. The police had initially said he would appear in court later on Thursday.

South African and other media quoted associates of the victim as identifying her as Reeva Steenkamp, a model whose Twitter page described her as a “cover girl” and a law school graduate. Ms. Steenkamp and Mr. Pistorius had frequently been seen together at society events and South African media identified her as his girlfriend, giving them the aura of a golden couple beloved by the society pages and photographers.

Oscar looks like he will be South Africa's answer to O.J. Simpson. At least he doesn't have the same initials.
