New York State’s highest court rejected unanimously a challenge on Thursday by opponents of same-sex marriage to policies that recognize such unions performed in other states, though the decision gave gay advocates a small victory because it was narrowly written and applied to a relatively small number of people.

Former high roller Terry Watanabe is accusing Harrah’s of some serious funny business in Las Vegas.

In what may be the nastiest spat since the days when Vegas handled disputes outside of court—if you get my meaning—Watanabe has filed a lawsuit accusing the casino giant of plying him with alcohol and prescription drugs in an attempt to keep him gambling. In the end, he says he lost more than $100 million.

Watanabe made his money with his father in the import/export business, running Oriental Trading Co. in Omaha, Nebraska. He sold the company in 2000 and became known as a philanthropist, with a taste for gambling.

By 2006, Watanabe says he was actually living at the Wynn in Vegas, but moved to Harrah’s properties, including Caesars Palace, after being offered better comps. Those comps included a three bedroom palazzo, 15 percent cash back on monthly table losses of $500,000 or greater, and $12,500

Volunteers have rescued some dogs from a puppy mill.

In Fairfax County, animal control officers returned late yesterday with 32 dogs of all ages, including some that were pregnant. They said the dogs needed to be examined and given a rabies vaccination, if appropriate, before they can be adopted. The dogs -- which were distributed among shelters in Fairfax, Alexandria, Arlington County and the District -- won't be available for adoption until at least next week, officials said. Loudoun County officials also brought back some of the dogs.

OF COURSE that dumbshit teacher couldn't carry a gun on campus. Whatever gave her the idea she could get away with a stupid and dangerous stunt like that?

After all, if she's worried about getting beat up, she could just move, but she can't endanger herself and other people, including students, because of some fear she might be in danger.

It's a police matter, after all. I am very familiar with Medford, Oregon, and the Medford P.D. is within a mile of South Medford High School, almost right down the street. So are the Jackson County Sheriff's Department and the county jail.

What an idiot that teacher is.

Gunther was one of the doctors involved in the hideous "Ashley treatment" case.

Steve Fossett has become a modern-day Amelia Earhart.

I have read several theories, one of the most interesting being a poster at Democratic Underground proposing the theory Fossett died much the way golfer Payne Stewart and the other passengers and crew did in their plane crash in 1999, and Fossett's plane then veered way off-course to parts unknown until it crashed after running out of fuel.

Nobody has found any sign of the plane as of now.
