Good for Governor Newsom

 Today the governor of California, Gavin Newsom, denied parole to RFK murderer Sirhan B. Sirhan, who has been in prison for over fifty years in connection with the assassination.  This was in the news because two of RFK's children had supported his parole while almost all of the rest of them, plus RFK's widow, Ethel, were adamantly opposed.

A snip of what Newsom had to say when he denied Sirhan parole:

California’s Board of Parole Hearings recently found that Sirhan is suitable for parole. I disagree. After carefully reviewing the case, including records in the California State Archives, I have determined that Sirhan has not developed the accountability and insight required to support his safe release into the community. I must reverse Sirhan’s parole grant.

Kennedy’s assassination not only changed the course of this nation and robbed the world of a promising young leader, it also left his 11 children without a father and his wife without a husband. Kennedy’s family bears his loss every day. Millions of Americans lost a unifier in a time of national turmoil and grief, just nine weeks after the assassination of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., and four-and-a-half years after the murder of Kennedy’s brother, President John F. Kennedy.

It was a crime against the United States and denied the American voter a choice. Sirhan can rot in prison for the rest of his miserable life.

Let Him Rot

 Despite the support of two of RFK's surviving nine children for the release of their dad's killer, Sirhan Sirhan, those two do NOT represent the Kennedy family's viewpoint in general and RFK's family in particular:

Sirhan, by killing RFK, altered the course of events in this country the same as Lee Harvey Oswald did nearly five years previously when he murdered JFK. Because of what Sirhan did, Nixon got elected, the Vietnam War continued for several more years, and we had to go through Watergate and other GOP

scandals. Not only that, but releasing him is a slap in the face to RFK's widow Ethel, who is 93 years old and had to spend 53 years of her life without her soul mate. And yes, they really were complete partners. 

I would be very surprised if Gavin Newsom, now or should he not be recalled, would ever approve the release of this killer.

Yes, Arthur Bremer was eventually released and so was John Hinckley, but they didn't kill the political figures they targeted although those victims did suffer injuries (Wallace and Reagan, respectively).  But they didn't die.  RFK did.  They also weren't released until their victims had passed away, and, in Reagan's case, officials waited until widow Nancy died before releasing Hinckley.  The same is true in the cases of Lynette (Squeaky) Fromme and Sara Jane Moore.  Both women were released from prison following the death of President Gerald Ford.

Clearing the Ayers

When asked about the "dedication" in his 1974 book, Prairie Fire, which included the name of RFK assassin Sirhan Sirhan, Ayers called it dumb to have included Sirhan's name but digs himself into a deeper hole.

It Will Be 40 Years Ago on Thursday

Robert F. Kennedy was shot and killed by Sirhan Sirhan at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles.

Since that time, a cottage industry has sprung up trying to link his death to a conspiracy, as stupid as it is.


I was just finishing up seventh grade when I heard the news. I think it was actually the last day of school when it happened. I never will forget it.
