really and truly needs to shut up about Tiller and "reaping what he sowed."

Seriously. Terry sounds like he is condoning murder--real murder--of people as long as it is for the "right" cause.

And Bill O'Reilly is smart enough to know there are limits to "freedom of speech" such as yelling "fire" in a crowded theater. As far as I am concerned, his demagoguery regarding Tiller created just the atmosphere for the doctor to have been murdered by a crazy person.

Even apologies to Tiller's family would ring hollow at this point.

The Tiller Killing

The suspect accused of killing Kansas abortion provider Dr. George Tiller may be charged today:

Although Wichita police would not name the suspect, the Johnson County Sheriff's Office identified him as Scott P. Roeder, according to the Associated Press.

Wichita police said it appeared that the suspect had acted alone but that they are investigating whether he had any connection to anti-abortion groups.

Police on Sunday said they expected the man to be charged with murder and two counts of aggravated assault.

Just how this murder helps the anti-abortion cause is a mystery; if anything, it sets it back.

Tiller is the fourth abortion doctor murdered in this country. The others are David Gunn, John Britton, and Barnett Slepian. Slepian's was the last murder before yesterday. He was killed in 1998.

It's possible the Tiller killing could alter a bit the debate over abortion.

A number of the major anti-abortion groups in the Kansas area condemned the killing. Those groups may not have had a thing to do with it, but their loud protests helped create the climate in which murder--and I mean real murder, not some philosophical or religious argument abortion is on par with murder--is likely.

At least one anti-abortion fanatic has proven he cares about life when he shot Dr. George Tiller of Kansas dead in front of his church today.

Tiller was committed to his patients despite the threats on his life:

Since first performing abortions after the monumental U.S. Supreme Court Roe v. Wade decision in 1973, Dr. Tiller had been threatened, shot, his Women's Health Care Services clinic bombed.

Despite the assaults against him by people who believed what he did was murder, he continued to make available what he thought was right, friends say: a woman's right to choose.

"He was far too committed to what he did to let all of those situations -- and there were many and they were constant -- stop him because he had a commitment to his patients," said Peggy Bowman, who served as his spokeswoman in the 1990s.

Bowman said one only had to read the hundreds of thank-you letters lining the walls of his clinic, Women's Health Care Services, to know how he helped people facing decisions that others never face.

"Dr. Tiller always used to say that women are under the most stress at two times in their lives: when they are pregnant and don't want to be and when they want to be and can't," Bowman said.

He was 68 years old.
