Because I Am Sicker Than All Get-Go,

I had to stay around the house today. Not my idea of a fun day because the weather has been so nice, but with this awful sinus infection having gone down to my lungs, I don't dare do too much.

Including blogging.

I spent some time watching on YouTube the classic 1939 French film, The Rules of the Game, and while I feel it is a good film, I think one actually has to be French to really understand what the film is actually about besides it being a spouse-swapping film. I also didn't care for the hunting scene--the director, Jean Renoir, apparently had dozens of poor little jackrabbits shot for the hell of it. I was just disgusted. It was completely unnecessary.

It's watchable, and the print is certainly excellent given the film's age, but I have to say I would NOT put it on any ten all-time great movie list.

Fun fact to note is that at least two of the cast members are still alive: Paulette Dubost, who played the maid Lisette, will be 101 years old in October, and Mila Parely, who played Geneviève, is 93.

Misc

I pity so-called movie critics, let alone moviegoers, who cannot appreciate the films of Hollywood's Golden Age and the actors who made that era so great, including Cary Grant.

I think the reason these iconic actors whose names we all know aren't appreciated by many younger viewers, is because it never looked as if these actors were acting a part. The screenwriters wrote the parts to fit in with the actors' onscreen persona, while today's actors one can tell very easily they are acting. In other words, today's actors by and large are not iconic and will NEVER be iconic because they are colorless.

Hell hath no fury like four women scorned.

Unfortunately, the law is the law and they will wind up in jail if convicted.

A married man who planned to rendezvous with one of his handful of lovers at an eastern Wisconsin motel instead found himself bound, blindfolded and assaulted by a group of women out for revenge, according to court documents.

Four women, including his wife, eventually showed up to humiliate the man, who ended up with his penis glued to his stomach in a bizarre plot to punish him for a lover's quadrangle gone bad, according to the documents filed in Calumet County.

Now it's the women who face punishment, perhaps six years in prison, and at least one said Monday the story has gotten twisted and she's embarrassed.
