It's About Time

I must have played the Pruitts of Southampton theme song on my iPod about 50 times today. It'll probably be burned in my brain for the rest of my life.

And then this damned thing:




A longer clip is here. It's About Time bore more than a passing resemblance to that godawful Gilligan's Island. The theme song more than gives it away, complete with the same singers.

The second link proves the show was a reworking of Gilligan and probably dumber than I remember it. It has Sherwood Schwartz's fingerprints all over it. I have to admit they don't make theme songs like this anymore. They aren't memorable as they were then.

The Second Hundred Years

or, I Thawed Pa. This short-lived sitcom from 1967 found star Arthur O'Connell older looking than his freshly-thawed, 101-year-old father, played by Monte Markham, to say nothing of being older than his son, also played by Markham.

The Second Hundred Years lasted a mere 26 episodes. This is the pilot episode.

Undoubtedly one of cable networks was showing a bunch of pilot episodes sometime back, and some people on YouTube have posted them for people's enjoyment. I can think of many, many short-lived television shows, especially the turkeys, which should be out on DVD. I think they'd sell.

Since the weather is predicting show shit for the next few days, I thought this show appropriate for the blog.

Personal Stuff

I can't keep up with all of the new TV DVD releases. Since I went without any money coming in for about four months, I missed getting new season sets of Route 66, Rawhide, The Real McCoys, and The Donna Reed Show for starters. The manufacturers are coming out with new releases of vintage programs like gangbusters, and I am struggling like hell to get them.

Then once I get them, it's a chore to try and catch up watching them. I am trying to get through Get Smart (season 1), Father Knows Best (season 2), Burke's Law (season 1, part 1), and Perry Mason (season 3, volume 1), and I am trying to watch an episode or so a day until I get through them completely. I am trying to watch them before I go to bed, because once I get there, I "konk out" in a matter of minutes. It's impossible.

Those aren't the only new TV DVD purchases; I have many more to get started on, but those four I am going to try and do.

But it's getting harder all the time to try and finish.
