Hillary Clinton put her foot in her mouth, or so it seemed. At least the primaries are almost over with:
She was sorry she made the remarks.
Of course primaries have gone into June and even into August; in fact, the frontloading in competitive primaries is a rather recent development. Hillary Clinton was telling the truth here. Campaigns have gone into June in 1968, in 1972, in 1976, in 1980, I think in 1984 and in 1988, and certainly in 1992.
In honesty, this is the way they should be. Primaries not involving incumbent presidents running for re-election shouldn't end in January or February. Our candidates need to be tested, and our primaries should be spread out.
