That's what our politicians think of those who are unemployed and are that way BECAUSE of what the politicians have done to this country.

Killing off the poor, which there are more and more of, is the way to shore up Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security to make sure nobody ever lives long enough to qualify.

The jobless benefit system in the United States, which dates from the 1930s, is a complicated patchwork that varies widely by state, is consistently underfunded, and has sharply reduced eligibility for benefits in recent decades. It is jointly funded by the states and the federal government, but the basic benefits are set and administered by the separate states.

Nationwide only 37 percent of the unemployed receive benefits, with millions of part time workers, the self-employed and many other categories denied coverage. Most states provide a maximum benefit of between $300 and $400 a week, hardly enough to meet rent or mortgage payments, let alone other pressing needs. Even in New Jersey, where the maximum benefit is $584 weekly, the average benefit is nearly $200 less, and only about 50 percent of the unemployed receive any benefits at all.

Still, they are "bums" because of what their employers did.

Sick.

With Democrats like what we have in Congress, who needs Republicans?

Democrats acting like Republicans isn't limited to Congress, as Obama showed with the contraceptive debacle:

The deal offered by Obama is based loosely on regulations in effect in Hawaii and three other states, which require insurers to provide birth control “riders” for women who work at religious-affiliated institutions. Presently in Hawaii, these women can still get coverage at the price their employer would pay, but neither the employer nor the insurer is required to pick up the tab. Under Obama’s plan the insurers would be required to pay for it.

However, questions remain about how the regulation would be implemented in practice. As religious-affiliated employers would not be required to inform their employees of the availability of the coverage, women might be unaware that it was being offered. It is also not a given that insurers will voluntarily provide the coverage, although the Obama administration claims to have the authority to compel them to do so. Nor is there a clear mechanism to prevent insurers from passing on costs in the form of higher premiums.

Good News from Obama

It only makes sense to do this. Previously, if one was on unemployment, one could take classes, but only if they were willing to quit taking classes if a job was offered. At least this was true in Nevada, when I had UI in the late 1990s and was going to school.

But now Obama wants to change this and allow workers collecting unemployment benefits to attend school and get financial assistance. It makes sense if one cannot find work in his or her field.

—The Labor Department will encourage states to update rules during economic downturns so that the unemployed can enroll in community colleges and other education or training programs without giving up their benefits. States generally require people who collect unemployment to be actively looking for work, which can make it difficult to sign up for school or job training. Going to school will satisfy the requirement that they be actively seeking new employment.

—The Education Department will encourage colleges to increase financial aid packages for the unemployed. Colleges can consider an unemployed worker's situation and make them eligible for Pell Grants, which help low-income students afford college, and other aid. An unemployed person could get a Pell Grant and use it to pay for education or job training without giving up unemployment benefits. Beginning in July, the maximum Pell Grant will be boosted by $500, to $5,350.

"Our unemployment insurance system should no longer be a safety net, but a steppingstone to a new future," Obama said in remarks prepared for delivery Friday. "It should offer folks educational opportunities they wouldn't otherwise have" and give them skills they need to "get ahead when the economy comes back."

But of course there need to be jobs after one is retrained. And while this is good for my situation at least, since I don't think I am ever going back into public education after dealing with that crooked district, this country needs to bring the "outsourced" jobs back to this country. There has to be jobs to be available after people are retrained. Unless they go into business for themselves, and even there, if there are vast numbers of people without jobs, the chances are self-employed people will be hurt as well.
