Is This Good News?
Americans remain polarized over Little George, according to a new WP/ABC poll. The writers wonder if history just might be repeating itself. The son might be repeating the mistakes of the father on the economy.
Actually, the first Bush (despite all of HIS numerous shortcomings which he passed down to his wayward sons) fared a hell of a lot better in foreign policy and even the economy (although it went down the tubes during his tenure) than this black sheep of a black sheep family. Little George's foreign policy has been nothing short of a disaster, going from worldwide sympathy following 9/11 to worldwide scorn with Iraq (not to mention more than a few people here mad at him). Our international prestige is completely and maybe permanently gone. Domestically, Little George is way worse than his dad; the Younger doesn't seem to care what anybody thinks but wants to bully Congress into supporting policies that would be ruinous to the country.
Furthermore, in 1992 we had halfway honest elections despite the Bush I campaign's smears at Bill Clinton (which continued after Clinton was sworn in). With Bush II, we can't be completely sure the voters will actually be heard after the sham of an election this country had in 2000. It'll be repeated again, and the paranoid in me says the Republicans, now that they've got all three branches of government, will NEVER allow the Democrats to regain power again.
Never have members of one family been so alike yet so different.
